Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On? The film is Cooper’s third directorial effort, following his debut, 2018’s A Star is Born, and the Leonard Bernstein biopic, Maestro, released in 2023. The film follows a middle-aged comedian, played by Will Arnett, as he navigates his comedy career and his failing marriage with his wife, played by Laura Dern. Here’s the film’s full synopsis, taken from an official press release:
“As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene while Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family, forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form.”
In addition to Cooper and Dern, the film also stars Andra Day, Bradley Cooper, Amy Sederis, Sean Hayes, Christine Ebersole, Ciarán Hinds, and Scott Icengole. Bradley Cooper, Will Arnett, and Mark Chapell wrote the screenplay. Cooper, along with Weston Middleton, Will Arnett, and Kris Thykier, is producing the film.
