Hulu and Sony recently dropped a trailer for the Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis led Happiest Season, a romantic comedy centered around an LGBTQ love story. The film finds Abby (Stewart) preparing to propose to her girlfriend Harper (Davis) during a holiday celebration at Harper’s family holiday party. However, Abby must learn to pivot her proposal plans when she learns that her girlfriend is not yet out to her parents.
Happiest Season was announced nearly two years ago and is finally coming to Hulu later this month. This is Clea DuVall’s sophomore feature outing, with her having roles as an actor in everything from Argo to Broad City. She also co-wrote the script with Mary Holland, who also is acting in the film.
In addition to Stewart and Davis, two hugely in demand actors at the moment, the film also stars Schitt’s Creek co-creator Dan Levy as well as Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie, Victor Garber, and Mary Steenburgen. The film is filled with multi-talented actors that dive into directing, writing, in addition to their acting careers, which is always a welcomed sight.
With incredible talent in front and behind the camera, in addition to an LGBTQ that has been placed into mainstream with its cast and distributor, it will certainly be an important stepping stone for more LGBTQ stories. Whether that be something dramatic like Moonlight or something more mainstream such as this romantic comedy.
It’s just a shame that the pandemic has kept this film from being seen on the big screen. However, with the lack of new releases, this film is sure to catch many eyes once it is up on Hulu.
Happiest Season is set to stream on Hulu on November 25, 2020.
