Yesterday, Dreamworks Animation released the first trailer for their upcoming animated feature Abominable. This co-production between Dreamworks and Pearl Studios seems to be the most recent animated children’s film about Yetis since 2018’s Smallfoot.
Abominable’s synopsis reads, “When teenage Yi (voiced by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Chloe Bennet), encounters a young Yeti on the roof of her apartment building in Shanghai, she and her mischievous friends, Jin (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) and Peng (Albert Tsai), name him “Everest” and embark on an epic quest to reunite the magical creature with his family at the highest point on Earth. But the trio of friends will have to stay one-step ahead of Burnish (Eddie Izzard), a wealthy man intent on capturing a Yeti, and zoologist Dr. Zara (Sarah Paulson) to help Everest get home.” Such can be seen in the trailer, which boasts footage and animation similar to Dreamwork’s recent films like How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.
The film is directed American animator and director Jill Culton (Open Season). It stars Chloe Bennet, Albert Tsai, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Eddie Izzard, Sarah Paulson, Tsai Chin, and Michelle Wong as voices. Abominable will release on September 27th of this year, and the trailer can be checked out below.
