In her upcoming film, Woman in Gold, Helen Mirren (The Queen) stars as a real life Jewish refugee who, with the help of her lawyer (Ryan Reynolds, The Proposal), takes on the government to recover her family’s Gustav Klimt paintings which were stolen by the Nazis during WWII. Directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn), the film also stars Daniel Bruhl (Rush) and Katie Holmes (Batman Begins). World War II films dealing with the artistic and cultural war happening away from the action have recently increased in popularity, with last year’s Monuments Men being one such rendering. These films illuminate the far-reaching scope of the war, and the ways in which Holocaust survivors continue to fight. The lingering devastation of the war is apparent in the above poster, where the Nazi swastika manifests in Mirren’s shadow. Woman in Gold is slated for an April 3, 2015 release.
