First Look At ‘Transition’ Documentary Released

Ahead of the premiere of Transition at the Tribeca Film Festival, clip of the upcoming documentary feature has been released to the public.

The documentary itself follows the heavily debated topic of gender transition, seen through the eyes of journalist Jordan Bryon. During the process of their transition, Bryon is covering the Taliban in Afghanistan. The programmer of the film festival, Faridah Gbadamosi, went on to say that “undergoing gender transition is stressful in the best of times, but doing so in Afghanistan during the Taliban’s takeover puts it on a whole other level.”

The clip itself gives viewers a perfect feeling of the documentary itself. Bryon faces a crucial moment at the airport, fearing that their secret may be revealed, to their dismay. The tension of going through such a huge step in one’s life, paired with the justified paranoia from Bryon of the stakes at hand, gives a real taste at not only how the story will unfold, but also how Bryon himself feels.

Deadline reports that a synopsis of the film reveals that “Jordan feels constant tension about facts of his identity being revealed – his initial papers allowing him access to the country have him checked off as female, and every time a Taliban fighter gets a phone call he wonders if his cover is going to be blown and what they will do.”

Transition makes it’s debut at Tribeca, screening on Friday night, as well as on Saturday June 17th. The documentary is directed by Jordan Bryon and Monica Villamizar.
