Filming started yesterday in San Francisco on Marvel’s new Ant-Man movie, and we’ve already got our first look at actor Paul Rudd in the title role. He’s obviously not yet wearing the famous suit – which in the story gives him the ability to shrink in scale and increases his strength – but this photo gives us an idea of what Rudd will look like as conman Scott Lang before he becomes a superhero.
In other news on the movie, the cast has been rounded out, with Bobby Cannavale (Blue Jasmine), John Slattery (TV’s Mad Men), Judy Greer (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and rapper T.I. all securing roles. They will join veteran actor Michael Douglas (Last Vegas), who plays Rudd’s mentor in the film, as well as Corey Stoll (Netflix’s House of Cards). As we covered here at mxdwn.com, there was quite stir caused back in May when the original director, Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz), left the project over creative differences. Numerous names were bandied about as a possible replacement, including Adam McKay (Talladega Nights), but ultimately the job went to Peyton Reed (The Break-Up).
Most of the filming is set to to take place in Atlanta over the coming weeks. Marvel and Disney will release Ant-Man on July 17, 2015.
