Fox Searchlight debuted the first trailer for their upcoming film Lucy in the Sky. Sadly, the film doesn’t have much to do with the song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by The Beatles (except for the slow keyboard rendition at the end of the trailer) and is instead inspired by the real life events of a NASA astronaut.
Loosely based on the criminal activities of Lisa Nowak as well as her romantic involvement with William Oefelein, a fellow astronaut. It follows Lucy Cola, portrayed by actress and former Academy Award winner Natalie Portman, returning to Earth after a long mission in space. Upon returning, she starts an affair with a fellow NASA astronaut when everything starts to spiral out of control. She begins to feel distanced from her family and everyone else on Earth as reality starts to slip away from her. The trailer displays the film’s strong visuals as Portman’s character struggles with living normally once again.
Starring alongside Portman are Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz and Ellen Burstyn in this Noah Hawley directed feature. Lucy in the Sky is set to released on an unspecified date sometime this year and the trailer can be checked out below.
