TriStar Pictures has just released the first image of Meryl Streep from the rocker drama Ricki and the Flash. From the eccentric mind of screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult), and Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs), the story follows Streep as Ricki, a rock-n-roll guitarist who gave up her whole life for stardom. The movie picks up as she returns to her family to make amends.

The film also stars eighties music legend Rick Springfield as a band member and love interest, Kevin Kline (Life as a House) as her ex-husband, with Streep’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer and Sebastian Stan (Captain America) as her estranged children.

In typical chameleon artistry, Streep already looks pretty convincing in the role. Leave it to the Oscar-winning actress to go from portraying a frightful witch in last year’s Into the Woods straight to a guitar goddess. Ever the workhorse, Streep will star with Carey Mulligan (Drive) in the historical drama Suffragette.

Ricki and the Flash will open in theaters August 6, 2015.
