First Look at Benedict Cumberbatch in ‘The Current War’

Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) stars as Thomas Edison opposite Michael Shannon’s George Westinghouse in The Current War. The Weinstein Co. has released a first-look image of Cumberbatch in the role; check it out below:

Helmed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) from screenplay by Michael Mitnick, the story revolves around the two 19th century rival geniuses and inventors. Edison and Westinghouse had a feud over AC and DC current for electric power distribution. Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Days of Future Past) plays a supporting role as Nikola Tesla, a Serbian engineer and inventor who worked for both electricity titans. Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War) are also in the cast.

The Weinstein Co. is financing the drama and will do domestic distribution. A release date has yet to be set.
