Catching the first look at Godzilla: King of Monsters, the film promises audiences that the movie will be hot, literally. The first images to the sequel of the 2014 Godzilla confirm that the notorious beast is back and breathing fire.
The newest film to the Godzilla franchise sees many new faces. Stranger Things actress, Millie Bobby Brown, is joined by The Conjuring star, Vera Farmiga. The pair take on the roles of a mother and daughter duo who are kidnapped by an organization with shadowy motives. The ex-husband to Farmiga’s character, played by Kyle Chandler, sets out to rescue the two all the while dodging gigantic monsters. That’s right, monsters…plural. Collider confirms that Godzilla: King of Monsters will be bringing on the likes of infamous monsters such as King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan to either fight with or against Godzilla.
Although the follow-up picks up five years after the first film, director Gareth Edwards will not be a part of the sequel. Michael Dougherty, director of the Christmas horror story Krampus, will be taking over for this film. Dougherty revealed that although five years had passed since the attack of the ginormous creature, the narrative will still feature the fragility of humans in a world full of monsters but it will also expose that human nature is full of paranoia, obsession, and speculation that can lead to bad decisions.
With the official first trailer dropping soon, audiences will have to sit tight and wait for the movie. Godzilla: King of Monsters hits theaters on May 31, 2019.
