This new image from the upcoming British gangster movie Legend shows Tom Hardy standing around looking menacing in front of Tom Hardy standing around looking menacing. Confused? Don’t be; Hardy is merely playing both twin brothers, Ronnie and Reggie Kray (Ronnie with the glasses; Reggie with the cigarette). As we’ve mentioned before, the Kray twins are some of England’s most famous (and of course, infamous) criminals. Part of that fame comes from the number of celebrities they rubbed elbows with during the heyday of their criminal empire, including Barbara Streisand and Frank Sinatra.
It should be interesting to see how Hardy approaches both roles. The Krays were known to have very different personalities. Ronnie was the more charismatic of the two, but also paranoid, impulsive, and violent (also, he was pretty openly bisexual). Reggie was the brains of their operation, calm and calculating, but also devious and manipulative. The two were incredibly close, but they clashed over business practices and each other’s personal lives. Maybe we can expect some intense scenes between Hardy and himself – along the lines of Jeremy Irons as twin doctors in Dead Ringers (1988).
This image should be comforting for any Tom Hardy fans, as it’s evidence that Legend is (for now) proceeding along nicely. With the number of films Hardy has reportedly signed up for, it wouldn’t be too surprising to hear about at least one of them encountering problems. In fact, he’s already dropped out of one project due to scheduling problems.
