There are current talks with Sony to feature Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Carrie Coon (Widows) in the latest film of the Ghostbusters franchise, according to an exclusive report from Variety. Jason Reitman was announced as director of the upcoming film back in January and is planning on shooting the film this summer. Sony is looking to release the film in summer 2020.
Sources told Variety that Coon will play a single mother and Wolfhard will be her son. Other than these details, the rest of the plot is unknown. Sony secretly worked on the film for a while now and a huge emphasis was placed on the project. There were earlier doubts pertaining to Wolfhard being part of the cast since Stranger Things is similar to the Ghostbusters franchise but his audition for the film quelled the director’s previous misgivings.
Coon has been busy with the drama/thriller film, Widows, and the drama series, The Sinner. She recently played Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War. Wolfhard finished season 3 of Stranger Things and will reappear as Richie Tozier in the horror movie franchise, It. He will also be starring in The Goldfinch and The Turning.
