With the release of the second-to-last Hunger Games movie less than a month away, the final trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1 reveals a destroyed District 12 and Katniss Everdeen as a fully-fledged symbol of the rebellion.Readers will remember that the final installment of the Hunger Games trilogy pitted Katniss against the Capitol and against Peeta, captured at the end of Catching Fire. This trailer shows Katniss back in fighting form, witnessing the destruction of her home district and taking up her bow and arrows against Snow’s forces.
What the trailer didn’t reveal is where this first film will end and where the final installment will begin. It leaves the question of whether Katniss and Peeta will reunite before the end of the film or after; in the book, the two are reunited before the halfway point of the book. The reasoning behind the split of the movie into two parts has been puzzled over by fans and the films’ creators, and the main argument seems to be that in the original source material, Mockingjay felt too rushed. Now there is the opportunity to expand on different story lines while keeping true to the book, and this is evidenced in this trailer and the ones that have already been released (which can be viewed here and here) in which we see the psychological toll on the two victors Katniss and Peeta rather than the big action scenes of the war (though there is definitely some action to be had here).
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1 will be released on November 21, 2014 and the final installment The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 2 is set for release on November 20, 2015.
