Filmmaker And Playwright George Stevens Jr., Son Of Golden Age Director, To Be Awarded Robert Osbourne Award At TCM Classic Film Festival In April

As part of their annual film festival this year, Turner Classic Movies announced that they will honor filmmaker George Stevens Jr. with the Robert Osbourne Award, per the Hollywood Reporter. The son of Golden Age director, George Stevens, who helmed classics like Gunga Din, Shane, and the Award winners Giant and A Place In The Sun, Stevens Jr. is a writer, director, playwright, author, two-time Peabody Award recipient, created the American Film Institute, co-created the Kennedy Center Honors, and served as Co-Chairman of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. He will be the sixth recipient of the award, named after the beloved TCM host and historian who passed away in 2017, given to recognize an individual who has helped keep the cultural heritage of classic film alive for future generations.

In addition, Stevens Jr. will present an updated 4K restoration of the documentary George Stevens: A Filmmaker’s Journey, which he wrote and directed about his father in 1984. A Filmmaker’s Journey will be one of several restorations premiering at the festival, including Beau Geste (1926), The Enchanted Cottage (1945), The Big Combo (1955), Splendor in the Grass (1961) and The Wiz (1978).

The TCM Classic Film Festival will run from April 24 to April 27, 2025, at the TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX in Hollywood.
