French filmmaker Alexis Lloyd’s new film has released a trailer and will world premiere at the Naples International Film Festival in Florida, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Based on Irvin D. Yalom’s novel The Schopenhauer Cure, Group – The Schopenhauer Project follows a therapy group that is blindsided when a newcomer joins and expresses interest in writing a television series about the experience.
The project has recently released a trailer and is intended to serve as prequel to the YouTube and PBS web series of the same name, which has received a positive response.
The film stars an ensemble cast that includes Teresa Avia Lim, Ezra Barnes, Bernardo Cubria, Gabriela Kohen, Elisha Lawson, Cara Ronzetti, Thomas Sadoski, Lucy Walters, and Dr. Elliot Zeisel, a real-life psychologist who plays the role of Dr. Ezra Herzfeld, also known as “Doc,” in the film.
Writer and director of Group, Alexis Lloyd, who previously directed the 2012 romantic comedy-drama, 30 Beats, prepared detailed backstories for the actors’ characters, as well as core narrative beats, while also allowing the cast freedom to improvise dialogue.
Group – The Schopenhauer Project‘s producers include Ronald Guttman, Jack Lechner, Lloyd, Molly Conners, and Alex Spatt.
The Naples International Film Festival runs from October 23-26 in Florida.
