After a long summer of hush-hush developments for Star Wars Episode VII, what we assume was a cast wrap-party this past Saturday at the London Science Museum gives us indication that the film is finally moving into post-production. Reportedly in attendance was director-producer J.J. Abrams (Super 8) along with original Star Wars alums Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher, as well as the saga’s newcomers Daisy Ridley (Lifesaver), John Boyega (Attack the Block), and Andy Serkis (The Lord of The Rings Trilogy).
Also present was frequent Abrams-collaborator Simon Pegg (2009’s Star Trek), which could mean the actor has an undisclosed role in the latest installment.
Another more telling clue is the letter to the cast, penned by Abrams, and signed by producers Kathleen Kennedy and Brian Burk, thanking everyone for the hard work put in to making “a film that entertains millions of people, of all ages, for generations.” Released by cast member James Rose (Green Pants) – in a tweet which has since been deleted – the letter details the ambition of the project as well as its physical scope:
From the deserts of Abu Dhabi, to the Forest of Dean, to the stages of Pinewood, you have risen to every challenge and been as wonderfully kind as you are brilliantly talented.”
This seems to be a final thanks and parting of ways for the cast and crew. With filming now completed, fans will begin to cross their fingers that they’ll be treated to a trailer or teaser soon. At the very least we would all like some plot details beyond knowing that time period is a thirty-year jump from Star Wars Episode VI, making way for the plausible returns of Luke Skywalker (Hamill), Han Solo (Ford), and Princess Leia (Fisher). In the meantime, the crew has until the December 18th, 2015 release date to put the final touches on Episode VII before it becomes a part of the saga’s legacy.
