Filming for ‘Avatar 2′ is complete- No really this time!
James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 2’ has literally been a decade in the making, and after numerous delays, the most recent due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cameron has confirmed to the Terminator himself that the picture is now “100% complete.”
Cameron has had quite the rollercoaster of a release schedule following the success and the near decade long crown of highest grossing film of all-time with 2009’s ‘Avatar.’ The film dazzled audiences and critics alike at the time, being a large reason 3D became a mainstay in popular blockbusters.
A sequel was originally slated for 2014 to piggyback off the success of the original and create a blockbuster franchise. However, as the latter decade went on and the sequel kept being delayed, the appeal faded. Though, now with the sequel’s live action portions completed, and ‘Avatar 3’ shooting alongside it, audiences may become more interested in these blue creatures once more.
In the Austrian World Summit 2020, an environmental conference, Cameron was interviewed by action-star, former governor, and Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the twelve minute interview they talk about the environment, veganism, and the Avatar sequels. The Avatar franchise has a lot to say about pollution and saving the world one lives in.
The old duo felt akin to brothers when talking with each other over zoom. Cameron even hinting that he would show Schwarzenegger, one on one, exactly what he’s working on. He also confirmed that the second sequel is currently shooting in New Zealand, where he shot the original.
He stated, “We’ve got about 10% left to go. We’re 100% complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95% on Avatar 3.” He goes on to discuss his happiness with New Zealand’s response to the pandemic, which allows him and his crew to have a mostly normal life.
He ends with saying “I believe in the mystery and the great reveal.” A wonderful sentiment about film. Something that is sometimes lost with constant trailers, exclusives, and leaked material.
‘Avatar 2’ is set to release on December 16th 2022. Giving ample time to add all the effects that will surely be groundbreaking nearly thirteen years after original.
