A new poster for the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey adaptation has the new leading man, Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, along with the release date of, fittingly, Valentine’s Day 2015. The erotic love story based on the bestselling book by E.L. James also stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele and is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
The original novel began as a series of fan-fiction episodes from author E.L. James inspired by Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga. The episodes eventually received an original cast and setting in time for a trilogy of novels. The story follows Anastasia as she develops a relationship with business tycoon and BDSM enthusiast Christian Grey. Charlie Hunnam had originally signed on to star as Grey but dropped out of the project, which likely contributed to the delay from an August 2014 release.
Fifty Shades of Grey will reportedly aim for an R-rating, though some of the scenes described in the novel would likely earn a faithful adaptation an NC-17. Given the book’s popularity it would not be surprising if an unrated cut were made available on Blu-Ray and DVD, though Universal and Focus Features have not announced plans to do so at this time.
