With other horror icons like Nosferatu and Frankenstein getting new reimaginings, Wolf Man is next in line to receive its big-screen treatment again. While still a few months out from release, the new spin on the classic monster has been given a new trailer.
The original Wolf Man, which debuted in 1941, starred Lon Chaney Jr. as Larry Talbot, a young man who returns to his family’s manor after his brother’s death, only to be bitten by a werewolf and cursed with a horrible affliction when the moon is full.
The new Wolf Man comes to audiences from director Leigh Whannell, who was also responsible for 2020’s The Invisible Man, which featured Elisabeth Moss in the leading role.
The original Invisible Man, much like Wolf Man, was another staple of Universal’s early horror film lineup from the 1930s and ’40s. Coincidentally, both films featured Claude Rains in a prominent role, with him playing the title character in The Invisible Man and then as the father to Lon Chaney Jr.’s character in Wolf Man.
The new trailer showcased snippets of the story while setting up the family dynamic. The horror flick follows a family attacked on the road and forced to take refuge in the father’s childhood home. The attack leaves the father injured, but his wounds go beyond anything in their darkest nightmares.
ComicBookMovie.com noted that a design for the film was used recently during Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. Although many reacted negatively to what was shown, the trailer teases a design that differs from what was seen, sparking speculation that there will be two werewolves in the film.
Wolf Man hits theaters Jan. 17, 2025. Check out the trailer below.
