“Fear Runs Deep Inside.” Check out the Trailer for ‘Sputnik’

Sputnik, a Russian film was set to have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April of 2020, but due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, that was altogether cancelled. The film itself was released on Video on Demand in Russia on April 23 and now the North American release date has been set for August 14. It did receive positive reviews with one reviewer calling the movie “One of the most suspenseful science fiction film in years.”

The movie revolves around the discovery of a lone cosmonaut who survived an ordeal in space leaving him to be the only survivor of his crew; that is until it’s discovered that he brought something back with him. A parasite that’s using his body as a host. A young doctor is recruited by the military to save the cosmonaut while preserving the parasite that’s inside of him. If you’re thinking this sounds similar to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic Alien, then you’d be correct.

The film stars Oksana Akinshina (best remembered for Irena Neski in The Bourne Supremacy) as the young doctor and features two well known Russian actors, Pyotr Fyodorov and Fyodor Bondarchuk, both of whom starred in Stalingrad. Upon the pandemic, Sputnik was scheduled to be released in theaters and instead will be available on demand in the United States on August 14 2020. Egor Abramenko makes his directorial debut with this film.

So, if you’re in the market for a different type of science fiction movie then mark your calendars for the date aforementioned.  But before you do, check out the creepy trailer below.

Rick Rice: A kid at heart who has loved watching movies from a very young age. Credit must be given to Siskel and Ebert whose film reviews educated me on the world of film inspired me to become a writer myself. I love to read books that range from various topics, copious amounts of research is something that excites me and of course sitting in a movie theater is a highlight of my life. When I'm not watching movies or reading I enjoy listening to foreign music and working hard on finishing my short stories. Currently working on my degree in English with a plan to enroll into Film School with the dream of becoming a screenwriter and director.
