Fantasia International Film Festival 2014: 2nd Round of Films Announced

Last week, we got look at some of the wacky and wonderful films that will be shown at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival – films about tiny action heroes and video game critics. But that was just a sample of the cinematic feast the Quebec-based festival has prepared for you.

These entrées (yep, sticking with that metaphor) include the zombie-comedy, Life After Beth starry Aubrey Plaza (Safety Not Guaranteed, TV’s Parks and Recreation); From Vegas to Macau, the fourth entry in the God of Gamblers series starring Hong Kong-action superstar, Chow Yun-fat (The Monkey King, Let the Bullets Fly); plus popular indie director and gay icon Greg Araki’s (Nowhere, Mysterious Skin) latest film, White Bird in a Blizzard.

Fantasia 2014 will also be one of the latest film festivals to show Lenny Abrahamson’s Frank, the weird sort-of-true story about a weird band led by the titular Frank (Michael Fassbender), who wears a giant fake head all the time, which is weird. It’s an appropriate entry considering “weird” may just be one of the qualifiers for a spot at Fantasia.

Fantasia will be held in Montreal from July 17th to August 5th (the year should be obvious at this point).
