Fast & Furious may be the highlight of Vin Diesel’s filmography, but it’s also an apt description of the actor’s career in recent years. The actor is set to star in F. Gary Gray’s upcoming action-comedy for STXfilms, Muscle, which will shoot later this year Deadline announced.
“There are few directors who can match Gary’s skill with character, comedy and big action, which is why he is one of the most accomplished and in-demand directors working today,” said STXfilms Motion Picture Group Chairman Adam Fogelson. “Over the years, Vin and I have worked together on a number of hit movies, and it’s a thrill to reteam Vin and Gary after their billion-dollar success on The Fate of the Furious. This will become one of the most eagerly anticipated films on our slate.”
Muscle’s original script was written by Scott Taylor & Wesley Jermaine Johnson, with the latest draft coming from John Swetnam and The Falcon and Winter Soldier creator and co-writer, Malcolm Spellman. Diesel and Gray previously worked together on the Fast & Furious franchise and on the director’s 2003 action thriller, A Man Apart.
Diesel is currently working on quite a few films that are set to release in the coming years, including James Cameron’s Avatar 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and a live-action film adaptation of the classic Mattel game, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. The Fast & Furious franchise will also see the release of F9 later this year on June 25.
