The casting of the upcoming Harry Potter universe movie is continuing, and the latest announcement is that Ezra Miller is being eyed for the role of Kredan. Set 70 years before the events of the previous Harry Potter movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them follows a “magizoologist” on his journey documenting magical creatures, meeting American witches and wizards along the way.
If Miller is chosen for the role, he’ll play Kredan, an American wizard whom Newt Scamander, played by Eddie Redmayne, meets on his journey in New York City. Also on board is Katherine Waterston, who is set to play the role of Tina. There have been no concrete details released on the plot besides the British wizard’s travels to America.
There are two more roles yet to be cast without rumors swirling around: Tina’s younger sister Queenie and a rival of Scamander’s named Jacob. Warner Bros. has not confirmed Miller’s role as Kredan, though he’s emerged as the favorite just in the last week. Rumors for these other roles include Alison Sudol as director David Yates’ favorite for Queenie and either Josh Gad or Michael Cera for the role of Jacob.
J. K. Rowling, who penned the original spinoff book on which Fantastic Beasts is set, wrote the screenplay, while David Heyman, another Harry Potter alum, is set to produce. Rowling has stated that this movie will not be a sequel or a prequel to the established Harry Potter canon, but rather “an extension of the wizarding world.”
Ezra Miller most recently starred in The Stanford Prison Experiment. He’s also set for a large role in Warner Bros.’ other tentpole franchise, the DC Cinematic Universe, taking on the role of the Flash in the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set for release on November 18, 2016.
