Movie distribution company Charades has boarded the Latvian 3-D animated feature Flow from director Gints Zilbalodis, known for his animated silent debut Away and I Lost My Body. All of this was done ahead of the feature’s presentation at the Work-In-Progress Showcase in Annecy.
Zilbalodis co-wrote the feature with Dream Well Studios’ Matiss Kaza and Sacrebleu Productions’ Ron Dyens, both of whom are also co-producing the feature. Flow follows a group of animal survivors of a post-apocalyptic sharing a boat as they struggle to coexist. The stubborn protagonist cat struggles to get along with the rest of the group in an “allegory of the social and political situations we face in these difficult times, through the animals and their misadventures.”
The Latvian director made his debut at the age of twenty-four with Away, which won the Contrechamp Prize for best feature at Annecy. Away was selected for over 85 festivals. Sold in nearly eighteen territories, and earned an Annie Awards nomination. With Zilbalodis’ prominent accomplishments and talent, many people have jumped at the opportunity to take part in another feature. Dyens even confesses that he immediately contacted Zilbalodis after seeing Away, asking him if they could collaborate sometime. “Sacrebleu is honored to be involved in this incredibly spiritual work,” Dyens cheers.
Flow is currently in production in Marseilles and Brussels and will be released in the second quarter of 2024.
