The Evil Dead series could see the return of their grooviest character, if circumstances are right. Bruce Campbell himself stated that he would return to the series if certain other creative minds were involved again as well.
Since the first film’s release, Bruce Campbell has been an integral part of the Evil Dead series. Campbell played Ash Williams, the only survivor of the first Evil Dead film when he and his friends visit a cabin in the woods and unknowingly awaken ancient demons.
Ash went from the frightened final survivor to a wise-cracking, boom-stick wielding hero once the ending of Ash Vs. Evil Dead rolled around, which was the last time Campbell portrayed him on-screen.
Despite the show’s cancellation in 2018, Campbell lent his voice to the character in video games, and even to an unrelated character in the recent entry Evil Dead Rise.
Recently, as Collider reported, Campbell shared exactly what it would take for him to come back to playing Ash in live action while being interviewed by Fangoria. His biggest condition would be for Sam Raimi, director of the first three Evil Dead films, and a close friend of Campbell’s, to return to the directors chair.
“I don’t want to be Ash, tended to by other people. Sam’s the meanest director I’ve ever worked with, and Ash needs a little bit of that to shine. And I think Sam’s the only director now who I won’t punch in the face making an Evil Dead movie!” Campbell said.
