Daniel Craig will reprise the role of the famous Benoit Blanc, the detective who solved the mysteries in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Johnson will helm the third installment of the who-dun-it mystery series, which recently revealed the title and timeline for the release. Following the success of the Chris Evans and Ana de Armas-led film, Netflix made a deal for two more sequel films with Johnson.
Back in May of 2024, the title for the threequel was shared on social media. The third film is titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Johnson previously shared he had hoped to change the subtitle to A Benoit Blanc Mystery, however, it looks like for now, the announced title will stay.
The end of the video indicates the film will be released at some point in 2025. Netflix has specified that fall is the slated window for release.
Craig is the only returning cast member, but a star-studded cast joins him for this third installment. So far, Josh Brolin, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, Andrew Scott, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, Glenn Close, Kerry Washington, and Thomas Haden Church have all been cast. More casting announcements are likely to follow in the next few days.
The film went into production on June 10, 2024, and Johnson took to X to share a picture of Craig returning as Benoit Blanc from production day 1. Production wrapped in August 2024. Johnson will write, direct, and also produce with his partner Ram Bergman through T-Street Pictures.
Combined with Glass Onion, the two films resulted from a $450 million deal for two sequels that Netflix struck with Johnson.
