‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Dominates The 2023 Independent Spirit Awards

This year at the Independent Spirit Awards, Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, was remarkably nominated for eight awards while winning seven, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Lead Performance for Michelle Yeoh.

Notably, the award show included gender-neutral categories for the first time, merging Best Female Lead and Best Male Lead into Best Lead Performance. This makes Yeoh’s win even more impressive since ten actors were nominated in the current category. In contrast, in the previous year, there were only five nominees within the Best Female Lead category.

Following behind Everything Everywhere All at Once, Tár, directed by Todd Fields, had seven nominations, while Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun had five.
