2024 proved to be the year of horror, with the release of acclaimed features such as Osgood Perkin’s Longlegs, Coralie Fageat’s The Substance, Robert Egger’s Nosferatu remake, Naomi Scott-fronted Smile 2, and Ti West’s final installment of his X trilogy, MaXXXine. Currently, another dominating horror feature of 2024 has topped the streaming charts nine months into 2025, as Art the Clown slashes his way to number one on the list of the ten most-streamed films on Peacock US.
Damien Leone returned to write and direct Terrifier 3, with David Howard Thornton reprising his role as Art the Clown, alongside Lauren LaVera as Sienna Shaw and Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes. The synopsis of the feature reads:
After surviving Art the Clown’s Halloween massacre, Sienna and her brother are struggling to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and leave the horrors of the past behind. But just when they think they’re safe, Art the Clown returns, determined to turn their holiday cheer into a new nightmare. The festive season quickly unravels as Art unleashes his twisted brand of terror, proving that no holiday is safe.
While the film was panned by critics as “a mess,” this seemingly messy film was a financial success, ultimately becoming one of the most commercially successful movies of 2024. With a budget of $2 million, the third film recouped its investment in full, earning a cumulative $76.3 million globally, with $54 million from the domestic box office and $22.3 million from overseas. This places Terrifier 3 fourteen places outside of the 100 highest-grossing horror films of all time.
Terrifier 3 is available to stream on Peacock.
