Practical Magic 2 is on the way, but it seems that Evan Rachel Wood will not be reprising her role as Kylie Owens in the sequel. At the premiere for the new series The Shards, Wood opened up about her disappointment that she was not included in the follow-up.
She said, “It is sad, because we bonded with that cast so much as children, and so to miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes, it’s something that can’t be faked. I’m sad that doesn’t get to exist, especially for the fans.”
Instead of Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip, who played the daughters of Sandra Bullock’s Sally Owens in the original film, Joey King (The Kissing Booth) and Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) take over their roles. Rachel Wood also added that she didn’t think they were following the source material for the sequel. “I read the book and it seems like they’re not following the book. I think in the book it would have made sense to bring me back; I think in the way they’re redoing it and approaching it, it didn’t make sense. I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are re-casting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”
Practical Magic 2 is adapted from The Book of Magic by by Alice Hoffman, the sequel to her original novel, Practical Magic. The film hits theaters on September 11.
