According to an exclusive from Variety, Eva Green is in talks to join Tim Burton’s next big project, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, based on the bestselling debut novel by Ransom Riggs.
Accompanied by striking vintage black-and-white photography, the book is about a teenage boy who travels to Wales to investigate the mysterious death of his grandfather, which may have been caused by the supernatural. There he meets a group of children with strange, superhuman abilities, guarded in a home by a woman named Miss Peregrine – the role to be played by Green.
Green’s presence as an actress is unmistakable, and lately her face seems to be everywhere, in both film and television. Most recently she popped up in the trailer for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and received much attention for her starring role in 300: Rise of an Empire. She also holds a lead role in the new Showtime horror series Penny Dreadful, which was just given the go-ahead for a second season.
Burton’s other projects include the Margaret Keane biopic Big Eyes, which is set to release on Christmas of this year. The director is notorious for running with a small, familiar circle. Having already worked together for the 2012 adaptation of Dark Shadows, Green and Burton could further build their actor-director relationship if she accepts a role in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. A story of this kind seems perfectly suited to Burton’s romantically macabre visual style. The film will be produced by Chernin Entertainment.
Although no other casting information is available yet, fans of Burton and Green alike will undoubtedly be monitoring the situation closely, as well as wondering where Johnny Depp might fit into all of this.
