The quest for extraterrestrial life continues in the forthcoming Europa Report, though not (at least at first) as Hollywood tends to present it. The film follows a group of astronauts who travel to Jupiter’s moon Europa, which real scientists believe may have subsurface oceans and possibly bacterial life.
Europa Report is produced by Ondine and It’s Kind of a Funny Story vet Ben Browning, who also was executive producer on Sanctum alongside James Cameron. The cast is headed by Sharlto Copley (Wickus in District 9), and while the film lacks true star power the ensemble is full of industry veterans. The lack of well known actors could actually prove helpful, as the film is shot in a documentary style and it’s possible that seeing familiar faces could hurt the realistic tone the film seems to be striving for.
Europa Report is out on VOD on June 27, with a theatrical release to follow August 2nd.
