Luc Besson (Lucy) has added Ethan Hawke (Boyhood) to the cast of his upcoming graphic novel adaptation, Valerian. The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
Besson announced that Hawke was joining the project on his Instagram account, saying he wanted to work the actor for years. Besson, however, didn’t reveal Hawkes role in the film.
The film tells the story of a time-traveling agent, Valerian (Dane DeHaan, Chronicle) with his partner Laureline (Cara Delevingne, Paper Towns). Clive Owen (Last Knights) and Rihanna (Battleship) will also star in the movie.
Hawke has been busy lately, starring in more than eight films released in the past two years. The actor is currently shooting the western remake, The Magnificent Seven, which re-teams him with his Training Day director, Antoine Fuqua. He will also play Chet Baker in the biopic Born to Be Blue.
We’ll have more on Valerian as the project further develops.
