Law & Order’s Eric Bogosian (Talk Radio, Blade: Trinity) will join cast of indie writer-director Alex Ross Perry’s comedy-drama Listen Up Philip in the role of narrator. This is Perry’s third film after Impolex and The Color Wheel, which was nominated for a 2012 Independent Spirit Award. David Edelstein of New York Magazine chose The Color Wheel as a Critic’s Pick, citing it as “the most entertaining unpleasant film I’ve seen in years.”
After proving his writing and directing chops, Perry was approached by Sailor Bear Films (Toby Halbrooks, James Johnson and David Lowey), the team that produced Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, for this newest project, and it’s paid dividends in the casting department. Jason Schwartzman (Moonrise Kingdom, Saving Mr. Banks) and Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss star. Moss recently finished Jane Campion’s Top Of The Lake and Walter Salles’ adaptation of On The Road.
Schwartzman plays Philip, a self-absorbed writer in New York City, with the storyline following his journey of up and down the ladder of success, including almost destroying the lives of his friends, played Krysten Ritter (She’s Out Of My League, Vamps) and Jonathan Pryce (GI Joe: Retaliation, GI Joe: Rise Of The Cobra), along with his successful art-photographer girlfriend (Elisabeth Moss). It’s not clear at the moment how large a part Bogosian’s narration will play.
Katie Stern and Joshua Blum are producing with Sailor Bear Films. Listen Up Philip will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
