Lake Bell proved herself a triple threat three years ago with the indie hit In a World… Bell wrote, directed and starred in the acclaimed film centered around the niche industry of Hollywood voice over artists and took home the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award in the process. Bell is running the show yet again for an upcoming comedy called What’s the Point? (And Other Fair Questions About Marriage) and appears to have enlisted a solid ensemble cast for her latest effort.
Along with writing and directing duties, Bell will star in the film opposite Ed Helms (a fellow compatriot of Children’s Hospital) in the this comedy of manners that dissects the meaning of holy matrimony. According to Deadline, Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen (The Help), Paul Reiser (Whiplash), Dolly Wells (45 Years) and Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) have joined the cast as well. What’s the Point? is slated to start shooting anytime now. Bell is also producing the project.
As solely an actress, Bell has recently appeared in Million Dollar Arm opposite Emmy Award winner Jon Hamm and the thriller No Escape opposite Owen Wilson. Her voice over talents will be used to good effect in the upcoming The Secret Life of Pets and recently completed production on the crime thriller Shot Caller opposite Games of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Jon Berenthal (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Emory Cohen (Brooklyn).
What’s the Point? does not yet appear to have U.S. distribution.
