It’s been a busy time for Avatar’s marketing, now that the trailer for Avatar: Fire And Ash has debuted. On top of the teaser, many images have been revealed, finally giving fans a closer look at what they can expect from James Cameron’s newest film. Picking up right where Avatar: The Way Of Water left off, Fire And Ash finds Jake and the Sully family trying to process their grief while keeping up with their new home. With Jake’s old rival Quaritch still trying to tear him down, they discover the Ash Clan, a rogue group of Na’vi who go against the will of their god. With a ruthless leader at the helm, Quaritch and the Ash Clan threaten everything the Sully family holds dear, and could even tear them apart for good.
Empire Magazine was able to release new images of the film, including those of the new titular antagonists. As ScreenRant notes, both images shown share separate perspectives of the characters.
One image shows the chief of the Ash Clan, Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. Her appearance serves as a stark contrast to that of the other Na’vi chieftains audiences are used to: the blue skin is much more faded on her, causing the bright red face paint she uses to stick out much more. On top of that, she has an ornate, bright red headdress to match with her paint.
The other image goes for a larger scale, showing a wider shot of the Ash Clan. Varang is set in front of her similarly-dressed followers, seemingly giving some sort of war command. All the while, the clan is surrounded by fire, burning down a forest.
Avatar: Fire And Ash hits theaters December 19th.
