The short animated film suitably titled Baggage will make its international premiere at the well-known film festival SXSW. The film has already been screened overseas, and Collider reports the film was met with success. Lucy Davidson is the writer and director behind the short film. Davidson is from Melbourne, Australia, and is no stranger to animation and stop motion.
She won the 50th anniversary competition for Pink Floyd with a music video of the song “Speak to Me.” She also contributed to the set decoration and animation of the Oscar-nominated film Memoir of a Snail. Her work in animation stood out, and she secured a position at Aardman Animation Academy, which is home to some of the best animators. Baggage was made through Aardman Animation Studios.
The film follows three friends on their way to a trip. They check their bags, but their bags are their internal thoughts, feelings, emotions, and overall Baggage. One friend has difficulties with digesting her baggage, but the other friends are there to support her.
The film delves into the dynamics of female friendship and having a support system. The film has already been selected for the London International Animation Festival and Flickerfest and won at Peninsula Film Festival for Best Animated Short. SXSW will screen the film on March 8. Until the film is released internationally, stop-motion fans can watch Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl on Netflix.
