Emory Cohen, most recently known for his leading man role in 2015’s Brooklyn, has boarded the latest Adam McKay Treehouse Pictures production Crook County, according to Deadline. McKay is most known as the director and co-writer for The Big Short, and is currently directing the Jennifer Lawrence-starrer Bad Blood.
Crook County was a BlackList script by Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly who will also be co-directing the film. The story follows the true story of Terrence Hake, a young lawyer who risked his life for the FBI to go undercover in a sting operation that took down over 100 government officials in Chicago. Cohen will be playing Hake and the film is set to be a thriller with similar comedic leanings as McKay’s Big Short. Production begins in the spring in Pittsburgh.
Cohen made his breakout debut in The Place Beyond the Pines as Bradley Cooper’s wayward son and moved on to appear in the television show Smash and the Mark Wahlberg film The Gambler before hitting another breakout in Brooklyn, opposite Saoirse Ronan. Cohen recently filmed War Machine alongside Brad Pitt. He can currently be seen on Netflix in the Brit Marling-created series The OA as well as in theaters in Christopher Smith’s Detour, out Friday.
