Oscar nominated actress Emma Stone (Birdman) may have gotten her hands on a plum upcoming role. Variety reports she is attached to star in Letters From Rosemary, a biopic of John F. Kennedy’s eldest sister Rose Marie “Rosemary” Kennedy. The Black List spec script was penned by Nick Yarborough, a first-time screenwriter. The film will be backed by Anonymous Content, who recently helped shepherd the Oscar winners Spotlight and The Revenant.
The first born daughter to Rose Fitzgerald and Joseph Kennedy Sr., Rose Marie Kennedy’s story was fraught with struggles that were kept in severe secrecy. Behavioral problems at a young age stemmed from mental handicaps saw Rosemary further distances from the supreme accomplishments of her tony family. At the age of 23, she received on the first prefrontal lobotomies- the procedure was marred from the start and as a result it left her incapacitated for the rest of her life. The film is slated to focus on the time right before the procedure and the immediate effect on Rosemary and her family.
It doesn’t appear that Letters From Rosemary has a director on board as of yet, nor a projected start date. However, Stone’s attachment as well as the involvement in prolific Oscar-winning producer Steve Golin may move things forward rather quickly. Stone has a pretty busy couple of years ahead. Last seen on screen in the films Aloha and Irrational Man last summer, her upcoming slate includes the original musical La La Land alongside Ryan Gosling from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle. Stone will also star alongside her Crazy Stupid Love father Steve Carell in the tennis bio Battle of the Sexes and is set to co-star in The Favourite for director Yorgos Lanthimos (The Lobster).
We will stay tuned the latest developments surrounding Letters From Rosemary.
