Comic-Con will open its doors to Lionsgate’s upcoming buzzy thriller Nerve. The film will have a sneak preview for Comic-Con attendees on Thursday, July 21st at 7PM. This late addition to the annual San Diego mecca for fanboys and girls is aiming to the give the youth-centered thriller – starring Emma Roberts (Scream Queens) and Dave Franco (Neighbors) – a shot in the arm before it opens in theaters the following week (on July 29th). Nerve will face off against Jason Bourne at the box office.
Nerve, which was directed by the Catfish–Paranormal Activity 3 team of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, centers around a high school senior (Roberts) who finds herself immersed in an online game of “truth or dare.” As she gets more invested in the game, her life starts to become more and more manipulated by the powers that control the game – a frightening community of anonymous “watchers” – Eagle Eye for the Snapchat crowd if you will. Franco co-stars, as do Orange is the New Black alums Samira Wiley and Kimiko Glenn; Oscar nominee Juliette Lewis also appears.
While Comic-Con screenings haven’t always led to mainstream hits in years past, this year’s San Diego fest will also include screenings of Star Trek: Beyond and the R-rated animated comedy Sausage Party.
Nerve opens in theaters on July 29th. Check out the trailer below:
