Emily Henry To Pen The Screen Adaptation Of Her ‘Funny Story’ Novel

Yes, you read that headline correctly. Emily Henry’s Funny Story received a film adaptation deal with Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company producing. No director is set at this time.

Releasing earlier this year in April, Funny Story is the classic enemies-to-lovers rom-com. Deadline provided a great summary: “The story follows children’s librarian Daphne, who has just been broken up with by her fiancé Peter, who quickly moved on to his childhood best friend, Petra. Forced out of their living situation, Daphne takes up residence with Miles, Petra’s ex-boyfriend. The pair hatch a fake dating scheme to make their exes jealous at the wedding, but as with the popular trope, the pair’s shared desire for revenge could spark a whole new flame.”

Since publishing Beach Read in 2020, Emily Henry has been on a roll. Her adult romance books have become bestsellers and sold millions of copies worldwide. In addition to Funny Story, Henry’s Book Lovers, Happy Place, and Beach Read novels are currently in development for films—the latter of which will be directed by Yulin Kuang (The Healing Powers of Dude, I Ship It). Funny Story is the first work she will write for the screen.
