“El Mal” and “Mi Camino” from the Emilia Pérez movie are already hitting high notes as we move into 2025. The film has secured two of the five nominations for Best Original Song, adding to its impressive total of 13 nominations across multiple categories, as reported by Deadline. These songs, written by Camille Dalmais, Clément Ducol, and Jacques Audiard, showcase the film’s exceptional musical elements. The other three nominees are “The Journey” from The Six Triple Eight, “Like A Bird” from Sing Sing, and “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late.
This year’s Oscars ceremony will spotlight the songwriters by emphasizing their creative achievements and delving into the inspirations and backstories that shaped each nominated track. The 97th Academy Award nominations were announced live on January 23, 2025, by Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles.
In a shift noted by Billboard, the Academy is changing its approach to the Best Original Song category by eliminating live performances this year. Instead, the event will focus on exploring how the songs came to life, including insights into their creation as shared by the songwriters.
Conan O’Brien will host the Oscars on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre.
The live broadcast of the nominations can be watched on platforms such as ABC News Live, Good Morning America, Disney+, Hulu, Instagram, OnTheRedCarpet.com, Oscars.com, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube.
