Emerald Fennell has found her young Heathcliff and Cathy, the counterparts to the older characters that will be played by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie. Fennell is not the first to adapt Emily Brontë’s gothic classic Wuthering Heights, but it will be interesting to see what she brings to the table based on her star-studded cast.
Fennell found her young Heathcliff in Owen Cooper, who will make his on-screen debut later this month in the Netflix limited series Adolescence. Cooper shouldn’t have a hard time getting into character as the infamous antihero because this four-part series seems to carry the same emotional depth. According to Variety, Cooper plays “a 13-year-old murder suspect in a story that traverses knife crime, incel culture, and the influences of toxic masculinity and social media.” The series also stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, Faye Marsay, and Ashley Walters. With a script from Graham and Jack Thorne, Adolescence is directed by Boiling Point’s Phillip Barantini and is to launch on Netflix on March 13th.
Subsequently, Fennell cast Charlotte Mellington as the teenage Catherine Earnshaw, who enters a passionate yet tragic relationship with Heathcliff. Mellington recently starred as Lavender in the West End production of Matilda the Musical. Vy Nguyen is also set to join the cast to play the young Nelly Dean, the main narrator of the classic novel. This feature will also be film debuts for Mellington and Nguyen.
Joining Elordi and Robbie in the older ensemble will be Hong Chau, who is set to play the older Nelly Dean; Shazad Latif will star as Edgar Linton and Alison Oliver will take on the role of Isabella Linton. Warner Bros.’ Wuthering Heights is currently set to release February 13th, 2026.
