Elvis Presley’s Manager to Receive Biopic

Elvis Presley’s old manager, Colonel Tom Parker, will soon be the subject of his own upcoming movie! Parker worked with Presley for twenty one years, beginning before the King broke into the mainstream. Ultimately, Parker’s partnership ended with Presley in 1977, due to Presley’s untimely and tragic passing.

Parker’s fascinating life began in Holland. While it has not been confirmed without a doubt, some believe that Parker may have committed murder at one point while he still resided in his home country. This notion, if utilized in the biopic, could add a further thread of interest to the film. After living the first twenty years of his life in his native country, he decided to immigrate to America, though he was undocumented. While there is no confirmation about how many years the film will span, Parker lived until the age of eighty seven, giving the film a wide area with which it can work.

The film will be headed by Steve Binder, Joe Berlinger, and Spencer Proffer, with production beginning in 2018. Binder in particular has a unique vision for the biopic, as he experienced Parker and Presley’s work firsthand, by producing and directing a documentary on Presley way back in 1968! He has directed three Presley documentaries in total: Elvis (1968); Elvis Presley’s Graceland (1984); and Elvis: One Night with You (1985). The screenplay will also be in safe hands, as Alanna Nash, who penned the book The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley will co-write it.

The film sounds promising, as it offers a look at the man behind the King, allowing audiences a different vantage point through which they can view an iconic phenomenon. It was also a brilliant touch to ensure that the film is headed by someone who has experienced the history and brought it to the screen, as well as choosing an experienced historian to help write the screenplay. This will not be the only upcoming film about managing figure behind a big name in the music industry: Leonardo DiCaprio will also hit the screens as Sam Phillips, who also coincidentally worked with Elvis, as well as Johnny Cash.
