Elizabeth Olsen, popular actress known for portraying Wanda Maximoff in the MCU, recently advocated for movie theaters and pushed back against streaming releases. In an interview with InStyle, Olsen stated that she would no longer sign on for movies that are made exclusively for streaming. She said, “I think it’s important for people to gather as a community, to see other humans, be together in a space. That’s why I like sports. I think it’s really powerful for people to come together for something that they’re excited about.”
She went on to clarify by saying, “If a movie is made independently and only sells to a streamer, then fine. But I don’t want to make something where that’s the end-all.” Outside of recent MCU projects such as WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Elizabeth Olsen has starred in a handful of smaller films as of late such as The Assessment and His Three Daughters. The latter of those films was purchased by Netflix. Hearing an acclaimed and popular actress like Olsen advocate for theatrical releases is a big win for movie theaters.
Elizabeth Olsen is currently promoting her upcoming film Eternity, which also stars Miles Teller and Callum Turner. The film follows the three of them as Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Joan, must decide who she will spend the afterlife with. It is an A24 release directed by David Freyne, and releases in theaters on November 26.
