Elisabeth Moss is on a roll. Already starring in the award-winning Hulu series The Hadmaid’s Tale, the upcoming film The Kitchen with Tiffany Haddish and Melissa McCarthy, and The Seagull, “boss” Moss will now play the title role in the thriller Shirley, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Shirley Jackson is an American Gothic writer known for her novels The Haunting of Hill House and The Lottery. Moss will play the reclusive writer alongside Michael Stuhlbarg, who will play Jackson’s husband and renowned literary critic, Stanley Edgar Hyman.
The film is to be directed by Josephine Decker whose credits include Loves Her Gun and Thou Wast Wild and Lovely.
Stuhlbarg most recently portrayed roles in Call Me By Your Name, Guillermo del Toro‘s The Shape of Water, and Steven Spielberg‘s The Post.
Shirley, originally by Susan Scarf Merrell, was adapted for the screen by Sarah Gubbins. The film does not currently have a release date, but we will keep you updated on any new information about the films in the coming weeks.
