A few weeks ago, Academy Award-winner Cate Blanchett was in talks to star in a film adaptation of the hit video game Borderlands. Now, it has been confirmed that Blanchett will be starring in the upcoming adaptation, which will be distributed by Lionsgate with Hostel director Eli Roth attached to direct.
Blanchett will be playing as the character Lilith, a siren known for her magical skills. This will actually be the second time the actress teamed up Roth, as she previously appeared in the 2018 film The House with the Clock in the Walls. Not much else has been confirmed as to who else will star in the upcoming video game adaptation.
Considering Blanchett’s acting range, especially in major blockbusters films including Lord of the Rings and Thor: Ragnarok, her inclusion in Borderland seems like a good choice. Plus, with the game series being known for their over the top violence and, it makes a perfect fit for Eli Roth given the director’s involvement in more violent film content. With more video games movies trying to gain positive mainstream attention, this new Borderlands seems rather promising.
No release date has been set for Borderlands. Blanchett can currently be seen in the Hulu/FX miniseries Mrs. America, which details the push for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970’s, as well as the conservative backlash led by Phyllis Schlafly.
