An exciting collaboration involving heavy hitters from the worlds of music and film have bred an erotic horror project anticipated to release in 2026, as first reported by Deadline. The Lonely Woman is feature debut written and directed by musical duo, Boy Harsher set to depict the story of a forlorn heart revisiting tragic memories of a love lost that is unexpectedly enmeshed with a mysterious creature residing in the same catastrophic location amongst a string of Hollywood stars, such as Oscar-nominated Chloe Sevigny and the Grammy-nominated FKA Twigs; Both have tapped into the realm of horror with works like American Psycho for Sevigny and The Carpenter’s Son for Twigs. Also joining this star-studded cast is fellow musician, Sturgill Simpson who has also dabbled in acting for film projects like The Dead Don’t Die, The Hunt and The Creator, as initially covered by our sister channel.

Although this is big news of a big endeavor, the foundation of Boy Harsher was built on the art of cinema – the two met while attending film school in Savannah, Georgia then founded their musical projects (like their very first joint creation, Teen Dreamz) that led to threads of success, as elaborated on here. The duo – derived of producer, Augustus Muller and vocalist, Jae Matthews – also scored soundtracks for the films Machine Learning Experiments in 2020, My Animal in 2023 and their own 2022 directorial debut, The Runner along with this upcoming creature feature – all crafted with their signature synthesized sounds.

Production of this film concluded recently in upstate New York with support from Alex Hughes’ Spacemaker Productions (SpreeHow To Blow Up A Pipeline), Craig Butta of Base 12 (The Sweet East) and Bruno Vernaschi-Berman’s Good Bath (The Land Of Nod). These benefactors are appropriate allies for the genre-bending duo (especially on this thought-provoking project) considering their shared mission to defy norms in the industry, as eloquently worded in this statement on the Spacemaker site: “We are drawn to projects that have the relevance to critique, analyze, and ultimately dismantle the status quo while also enthralling an audience through captivating storytelling. Our agenda is driven by love of concept and our passion for the artistry we see behind it, rather than by the stifling profit-driven and antiquated studio system.”

With a notable amount of experience under the belts of each contributor and an excitedly positive buzz around this announcement, this work is projected to rouse high ratings and numbers along with dazzling reviews. The popular mini-synopsis used throughout the span of the internet is that this is a “bleak, sensual and atmospheric horror thriller”, but the jury is still out and more angles are to come.
