After its debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the latest feature from Ari Aster seems as though it will make a fairly average box office run. With a star-studded cast, such as Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Deirdre O’Connell, Luke Grimes, Michael Ward, and more, Eddington has been getting average rotten tomato scores.

The film follows a standoff between a small town sheriff, played by Phoenix, and the mayor, played by Pascal. Their feud pits neighbor against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico. The film currently has score of 67% on the Tomatometer, while the audience score is a tad lower, at 64%.

Collider’s Emma Kiely gave the film an 8/10, citing intelligent use of setting, Phoenix’s stellar performance, and a superb score as positive highlights of the film. Kiely wrote, “Eddington may feel like a step back for Ari Aster in regards to his striking visuals and talent for creating nightmarish viewing experiences,” adding, “But, if anything, it’s really showing that Aster can take these nightmares and show how they can operate in reality.”

Eddington is now available to watch in theaters.
