Legendary comedian Eddie Murphy is slated to perform his first stand up set in decades, this time for charity. He will be performing at Byron Allen’s charity event, Feeding America Comedy Festival, which will livestream globally on Saturday, May 9th.
The special, co-produced by Funny or Die and Byron Allen’s own Entertainment Studios, seeks to raise money for the nonprofit organization Feeding America. Along with the aforementioned Murphy, other renowned comedians slated to perform include Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish and Billy Crystal. Byron Allen is additionally set to perform, and confirmed the project with a heartwarming statement, “Laughter is often the best medicine, and we are extremely motivated to bring attention to issues of food insecurity, and to assist in providing meals to families across the [United States] who are financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
This marks what appears to be a career resurgence for Murphy, as his set preludes his upcoming Netflix special which will premier at an unknown date later this year. Additionally, Murphy made a tour de force return to acting in Netflix’s critically praised comedy-drama Dolemite is My Name, which earned rave reviews and even Oscar praise for his portrayal of blaxploitation icon Rudy Ray Moore.
