In an industry dominated by franchises, even the most unexpected films tend to get spin-offs and sequels in this modern movie age. The 2010 Emma Stone comedy, Easy A, now has a spin-off feature green lit by Screen Gems. The film’s original writer, Bert Royal, has been chosen to pen a script and direct the upcoming spin off film replacing the Original Director, Will Gluck.
Not much has been stated about the plot synopsis of this upcoming film, however the film is stated to explore more of the themes of the original film while being set at the same high school. It is stated that the film will centered around a new cast of characters exploring the themes of the first Easy A. It is also unlikely that Emma Stone will not return to star in the spin-off despite the original being one of her first breakout roles. There is possibility that Stone may make a cameo, however, considering the actress’ recent Oscar win, she is probably busy balancing several offers. One of her upcoming projects set to release in 2020 is Cruella, in which she portrays iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil.
A release date for the Easy A spin-off has not been set yet. The news was first reported by Variety.
